Frangokastello Beach lies on the southern coast of Crete’s Chania region, with a Venetian castle standing just behind the sand. The combination of clear, shallow water and the fortress’s imposing walls makes this a memorable place to enjoy the sea.
The sandy seabed descends gradually, making the beach a popular choice for families. Umbrellas and sunbeds provide space to relax, while nearby tavernas offer a convenient stop for a leisurely meal between swims.
The castle also brings local folklore to the shoreline. According to legend, the Drosoulites appear as shadowy figures at dawn during May. A little farther east, Orthi Ammos adds another reason to explore, with its sand dunes and scenic beach.
